What does the word “SOVEREIGN” mean in our name?

According to the lexicon, Sovereign signifies:

1. a. Supreme power, especially over a body politic

   
   

   b. Freedom from external control — Autonomy

   
   

   c. A controlling or guiding influence

2. One who is sovereign; an autonomous state

3. (Obsolete) Supreme excellence, or the embodiment of it

In Greek, Κυρίαρχος is formed from the roots Κύριος and ἄρχω, and depending on context it conveys several layers of meaning: Lord, Master, the one who commands, the one who originates and governs.

What does this signify for our Sovereign Rite and our Sovereign Sanctuary?

To understand this, we must return to our foundational principles:

our vision is for every Brother and Sister to attain their own “SOVEREIGNTY.”

Based on the definitions above, our initiatic approach aims at forming FREE Men and Women—free from external control.

What, then, is “external control”?

In our teachings we draw upon mythologies and Masters of the past—Osiris, Christ, and others—symbols to emulate on the inner path.

External control includes everything that keeps the human being in the shadows of ignorance, where alienation dominates and the inner light is veiled. Through practice and contemplation, the initiate gradually liberates themselves from these blindfolds that obscure Truth. Yet, in the paradox of the Mysteries, the same blindfold becomes a tool: it allows us to cast form upon the invisible and to uncover the hidden.

Sovereignty in the Hermetic sense

In Greek, Κυριαρχία ultimately means to become Κύριος—Master of the First Principles of one’s own Being (ὁ ὢν).

This is precisely what we seek to realize not in a future life, but here and now, through Hermetic, Alchemical, and Theurgical practices.

For this reason, the Sovereign Sanctuary of the 95th degree, consists only of Sisters and Brothers who have arrived at this illumination—those who have discovered the White Stone.

Our Rite is not an idle system of conferring degrees;

it is an operative Rite oriented toward illumination.

The meaning of “Sovereign”

The term “Sovereign” is not used to boast superiority, nor to exert force or power over others. On the contrary:

Anyone who becomes a member of the Sovereign Sanctuary of the 95th Degree—a Free Man or Woman— is blessed and free to depart at any moment

and even to found their own Sanctuary, carrying the Light forward to other beings.

A truly Free and Sovereign Initiate cannot and must not be held under any form of control, except the natural boundaries of their own virtues and moral compass.
